New Mac Version: 0.9.1: Panther support

Version 0.9.1 of the Macintosh FilmLoop product released today.  This version specifically provides support for Mac OS X 10.3.x, Panther.

If you're an existing Macintosh FilmLoop user, quit the FilmLoop application. Then, click on the "Download" button on FilmLoop.com to download the latest Macintosh version.  When the download is complete, drag the FilmLoop application icon onto the Applications folder icon.

Re-launch FilmLoop.  If you have questions or comments, please visit our forum.

Installation Instructions:

1. Quit your FilmLoop player
2. Drag and drop the FilmLoop icon in the installer window to your application folder (or wherever you normally install applications)
3. Launch version 0.9 of FilmLoop!

Cool new features for Mac users!  With this version, you can now:

• View full screen photos

This update also includes:

• Enhanced stability and performance: Navigate quickly through loops and photos by using your keyboard left and right keys in the player or in the zoom view.
• A new improved zoom to better view your photos and easily edit your Loop (including the loop title and description and the photo captions).
• Better notifications and the ability to customize Loop notifications: Be notified of new members joining last week-end's barbeque party loop, of newly added photos to the Daily News Loop and more. Choose which Loops to get notified for and how often.
• Re-designed dialogs: The look and feel of the new FilmLoop player for the Mac make it easier to use than ever!
• Text wrapping in comments
• And various bug fixes, including CPU load decrease, better handling of loop refresh and deletion, and increased performance of zoom views.

Plus the FilmLoop player runs on the new Intel-based Macs!

New Mac Version: 0.8.5

We have a new release of the Macintosh Player for FilmLoop out today -- version 0.8.5. Here are the highlights of this release:

• Web/Blog/IM Link dialog: no fair that it took so long to add this to the Macintosh Player. But  it's here now. Use this feature to add Loops to your Blogs. Anyone who clicks on the Loops on your Blog will automatically get FilmLoop and will get your Loop on their desktop.  Why would you run Looplets? Let Guy Kawasaki tell you. • Lots of stability and bug fixes: we're still in "pre-beta" but this version is significantly improved.

How to Upgrade

1. Launch your current Macintosh version of FilmLoop -- version 0.8.1.
2. You'll see a dialog box that tells you a new version is available. 
3. Click "update now."
4. The installer window for 0.8.5 will open.
5. Drag and drop the FilmLoop icon in this window to your application folder (or wherever you normally install applications).
6. Launch 0.8.5 of FilmLoop.

All your existing Loops will be saved and stored. You will not lose any data.

Release of Mac client v0.8.1 (156)

January 19. 2006: release of version 0.8.1(156) which contains the following improvements over the initial pre-Beta release:

- Addresses most of the bugs that you have reported during the pre-beta phase
- Improves the support of special characters in the Registration and Share dialogs
- Removes the vertical lines that would sometimes draw over the loop
- Improves support of image sequence in collaborative loops and frame re-ordering
- Adds support of "new photos" and "new comments" in the message dialog
- Fixes a several crash conditions

Note that if you have an older version, it will automatically offer you to auto-update when you restart your FilmLoop player.

If you don't have the Mac player yet, just go to http://www.filmloop.com and download the most recent version of the FilmLoop player.

Mac player pre-beta now available!

Greetings Mac Loopers!

We are very excited, here at FilmLoop, to announce that the pre-beta FilmLoop player for Macintosh is now available!

We will use this blog to keep you updated with information related to the FilmLoop Mac client.

The first pre-beta version available is v0.8.
Below you will find a list of current features and improvements we are currently working on.

System requirement:

• OS: 10.4 (We are working on 10.3.x support - please check back!)
• Web Browser: Safari

With the new FilmLoop Mac client, you can now:

• Create new Loops and share them with friends on Mac and Windows
• Add or drag and drop photos in the Loop and re-arrange their playback sequence (supports gif, jpg, png, tif, and bmp)
• Share your loops with others (posting the loops on the public directory or sending email invites)
• Get Loops from an email invitation
• Get Loops from the FilmLoop Network
• Zoom-in images and read/add comments
• Add photos to collaborative loops
• Save photos (if permission granted)
• Note: the client will auto-update to new available versions when restarted

Since this is a pre-release of the full version to come, some features are not available yet:

• Print an image directly (although you can save and then print)
• Viewing photos in full screen
• Get the Loop URL and Looplet from the Web/Blog link dialog
• Set Preferences (such as disk cache size)
• Use the player as your screen saver
• Display the player in mini and pocket modes

Things we are working on and will be addressed soon:

• Need to manually open the message dialog from Window menu when FilmLoop icon bounces in the Dock (To access the message dialog, you currently need to open it manually from the Window menu. You are notified of new messgaes by the FilmLoop icon bouncing in the dock. Messages notify you of any changes made to a Loop you created or subscribe to.)
• New loops just created may scroll on your screen before you have time to add content to it. Just scroll to the right to bring it back into sight.
• Using Firefox opens a web page when clicking on a Loop link including after installing.
• Under some conditions, loops will have thin vertical lines drawing over the images
• Long comments don't wrap up and are not visible. There may be a slight delay before they become visible on a Mac client.
• Under some conditions, clicking on the first frame of a Loop to zoom in will not show the photo. Close the zoom view and click on the second frame in the Loop.
